Dragon and Mermaid Necklace, Sterling Silver Fantasy Jewelry, "Enchantment" Scul

The "Enchantment", a fairytale captured in sterling silver fantasy jewelry. It is a three dimensional sculpture in miniature of a dragon and mermaid necklace. This sterling silver pendant depicts a mystical moment as it unfolds; waves crash against the dragon as he encircles the entire nautical scene with his wing and tail. All the while, the mermaid sits atop a rock confident in her own powers, each enthralled by the other.

I started by creating a detailed pencil drawing to refine my idea and layout the proportion of the piece. The next step was to sculpt everything in wax, this was a very time and labor intensive process; including applying one scale at a time on both the dragon and mermaid. While great attention was given to such details, I also took great care to ensure the musculature was accurate and the overall design pleasing. When sculpting was complete it was cast using the lost wax method in sterling silver. A patina was applied in two parts to give some areas a darker finish than others, providing for contrast and interest. This was followed by hand polishing and an application of Renaissance Wax to protect the finish and guard against tarnish. 

The pendant is 1 ¾ inches wide by 2 ½ inches tall. A black cord is included. The pendant also looks stunning when combined with the vine entwined neckwire. The neck wire gives this magical pendant an entirely different look. The neck wire features a front closure which makes it easy to slide the pendant on and off as well as no fumbling behind your neck when trying to fasten a clasp. The neck wire also looks wonderful when worn by itself or with many of my other fantasy pendants. The price listed reflects a $50 savings when these items are purchased together.
