A truly unique, mystical and beautiful artisans necklace of sterling silver fantasy jewelry depicts a maiden with a young dragon as they view the signs that initiate their quest. The celestial bodies of the sun and moon unite, an ancient tree comes to life as it imparts wisdom to guide them on their journey and the maiden holds a magical sword that will assist them along the way.
There this necklace is available with two different stone selections. The semi precious stone collection includes: garnet, peridot, iolite, amethyst, and citrine. The black & white version includes labradorite, moon stone and back onyx. Dangling from the roots are more beads made of amethyst, citrine, iolite, garnet and peridot or labradoriet, moonstone and black onyx. The beautiful hues of these stones have not been adequately captured in these photos of the dragon and maiden necklace.
This artisans necklace features a unique front closure making it easy to fasten and comfortable to wear. The dragon and maiden neck piece is offered in 4 lengths, although I can make almost any length you desire. The scenic focal point of the fantasy necklace has an outer dimension of the bib area 3 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches tall, with the dangling beads adding approximately another inch. The photograph does not accurately portray the beautiful shades of purple, blue, green, red and gold, as well as the highlights of green and blue that reflect from the moonstone and labradorite. As with all my work this fantasy necklace was created by the lost wax method. I started by creating a detailed pencil drawing to refine my idea and layout the design of the piece of fantasy jewelry. I then begin to sculpt everything in wax, first by addressing the overall composition, then proportion and musculature of the individual characters, lastly overlaying all of it with detailing. This was a very time and labor intensive process; including facial expressions, garment and sword design and applying the scales of the dragons one at a time. When sculpting was complete it was cast using the lost wax method in sterling silver. A patina was applied in two parts to give some areas a darker finish than others, providing for contrast and interest. The stones were set and beads strung on headpins and attached. This was followed by hand polishing and an application of Renaissance Wax to protect the finish and guard against tarnish.
