Mermaid "Encounter" Fantasy Jewelry Pendant in Sterling Silver

This stunning fantasy jewelry pendant depicts an unexpected encounter between a handsome man and seductive mermaid. The waves crash into the rocky cliff while a fish swims beneath the surface of the tidal pool where the mermaid dwells. A traveler looks down at the sea just has the mermaid rises above the water's surface . . . what is the rest of the story? It's up to you to finish the tale.

I started by creating a detailed pencil drawing to refine my idea and layout the proportion of the piece. The next step was to sculpt everything in wax, this was a very time and labor intensive process; including applying one scale at a time to the mermaid and other exacting details like facial features. While close attention was given to these fine points, I also took great care to ensure the musculature was accurate and the overall design pleasing. When sculpting was complete it was cast using the lost wax method in sterling silver. A patina was applied in two parts to give some areas a darker finish than others, providing for contrast and interest. This was followed by hand polishing and an application of Renaissance Wax to protect the finish and guard against tarnish.

The pendant is 1 5/8 inches wide by 3 1/8 inches tall. A braided leather cord is included. The bottom view shows the “Encounter” pendant in combination with a vine neck wire which makes a stunning necklace and totally changes the look of this magical pendant. The unique vine entwined neck wire has a font closure, making it easy to slide the pendant off and on and fasten without fumbling behind your neck. Please add a note stating your length preference, 16, 17 and 18 inches are the most common lengths. Ordering the pendant and neck wire together includes a $50 discount from the price of the items if they were purchased individually.

Très beau bijou, fabrication et finition très soignées. Chaque motif est très expressif, emporte l'imagination, exprime de vrais sentiments, c'est rare et remarquable. On n'a pas l'impression de porter un quelconque bijou standard "à la mode". Et même une pièce assez importante se porte sans problème, sans apparence de lourdeur. Une vraie artiste !

This is an amazing work of art! The concept of the different levels of the Encounter merged into one intricate piece of silver fascinates me. The movement, details and theme of this sculpture are a delight.
